Pure Unadulterated Underground Music

Underground music is term used for music by bands who hasn’t yet achieved mainstream status. Some of these bands intend to remain underground and some are just not there yet. Despite the lack of mainstream exposure, these bands are worth checking out. Most of the great bands that went mainstream came from underground scenes.

In the Philippines, local underground music thrives as well. Lots of unexposed bands continue to struggle for national exposure especially in the humble city of Iligan, in Mindanao, the southern part of the Philippines. Independent bands record and release their own stuff and organize their own gigs to promote themselves. Their music, mostly pop rock, alternative and indie are certainly buzz worthy. But, because of the lack of support, some bands lost the faith and die out, some remained but are hungry for gigs. You can’t tour around in the Philippines like you do in the United States because of the topography of the country (Philippines is composed of thousands of islands). Unlike in the U.S., all you have to do is strap all your gears in a van and hit the road.

Examples of these bands that I’m talking about are Disco Waves and Such. Both are popular amongst young adults and teens in the city. Their songs are mostly English and are arranged in an impressive way. Much of the songs are potential hits because of the catchy hooks and lyricism. Check these bands out and support them in any way that you can.

Guitar Hero

Have you ever wished you could play guitar as good as your guitar idols? Matter of fact, I do. There were many times that I was frustrated about not being able to exactly imitate Lamb of God’s guitar riffs. It’s a bit hard for me because my speed in alternate picking wasn’t built for that tempo. Ever wished that there’s an easy solution to this problem?

Wish no more!

Introducing (cue: trumpets) Guitar Hero. Just kidding, I’m not introducing guitar hero since it’s already been popular. But yes, Guitar hero is the answer to your frustration. What is guitar hero? Guitar hero is a console game in which players thrash away on a guitar-shaped controller to copy the moves of the guitar player playing a popular song. You know what’s the good thing about this game? It’s the guitar controller; it is replica of a Gibson SG. This makes it tons of times better because you don‘t have to use the old controller. The guitar has five buttons instead of strings. You press the buttons with your left hand while your right hand strums the plastic strumming bar. The buttons are pressed in accordance to the buttons that are shown in the video game. It is the closest thing to a guitar player without practicing for years. That’s what makes this game great and that’s the reason why it created a cult of followers. But of course, you can’t deny that nothing beats the real thing.

Why Use A Rickenbacker?

Amidst the millions of guitars in the market – from the famous instruments such as Fender Stratocaster and the Gibson Les Paul, and the millions of replicas around the world, there is one guitar that stands out among the rest. While all the guitars in the world have various similarities, there is a guitar that knows how to produce a different sound and would definitely get you noticed. It’s the Rickenbacker, baby.

Rickenbacker has been here for quite a while now and had produced many popular guitars that were associated with famous icons, take the Rickenbacker 325 Electric guitar for example; it was used by the legendary John Lennon when he was still in the beatles, and everybody and I mean EVERYBODY knows John Lennon. The guitar he always use it the Rickenbacker.

Basically, they kind of look like Stratocasters on drugs, or a pimped-out Stratocaster, with their big – flat bodies, often with traditional sound holes, a Ricky ‘r’ bridge and a weirdly unique headstock. Use one of these and you’ll definitely stand out among the rest. The thing, however, that really makes the Rickenbacker so special is the unique sound that it produces. This is mainly because of the toaster pickups that it uses. It produces that distinct and delicious vintage sound that vintage lovers look for in a guitar.

Rickenbacker is best used on genres in between heavy rock such as pop, alternative rock, jazz and country. This is definitely a must have for vintage lovers

Paid vs Free Online Guitar Lessons

There are tons of free guitar lessons in the internet. And yes, some of them are good and informative but to tell you honestly, they’re not complete. Sometimes they are so difficult for a beginner to follow. For example, you found a video tutorial in YouTube about alternate picking, you watched it, followed it and eventually you learned. But the big question is; what happens next? After doing the tutorial, you don’t what’s next. The tendency is you’ll go find another tutorial, and now you’re fuzzed up because the lessons you had were not in order or not organize. That is true when it comes to guitar lessons. It must have a properly laid out organized procedure of teaching. This is important for beginners to digest each lesson easily and per level. This is the easiest method of teaching guitar to beginners. A simple yet effective method that free tutorials lack. Free lessons does not have the patience to teach newbies because they don’t get paid for it while in proper paid guitar lessons, you get exactly what you paid for. And that’s economic enough. Don’t be afraid to invest in membership fees as long as you know it’s genuine and effective. There are lots of bogus sites in the net, so to avoid this, find the trusted sites, ask look for references that point to that site. It won’t hurt to research for a bit. But to be very sure, I’ll suggest to you a perfect guitar lessons for beginners website that has all the qualities and characteristics of a good, genuine, and effective guitar lesson website.
